The First Light House
Fisher & Paykel are proud to be involved with Victoria University and Meriden Energy's entry, 'First Light' into the US Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. This high profile international competition held in Washington D.C. challenges 20 universities to build energy-efficient houses that are powered exclusively by the sun. First Light is the only entry from the Southern Hemisphere.
We have installed our most efficient appliances including induction, Active Smart™ refrigeration, a Smart Drive™ washing machine and a compact oven. These appliances will be put through their paces in front of a 300,000 strong crowd during the 9 day event.
Fisher & Paykel Global Brand Manager Roger Bridge and Head of Design Mark Elmore recently had the pleasure of hosting some of New Zealand's top architects at the First Light House in Wellington. The First Light Students provided a fascinating tour that impressed all who attended.
The house is now ready to make its journey across the Pacific to the United States in preparation for the competition in September.
